About Us

We are Ann, Bret and very soon to be Colton.... ABC!  Welcome to our blog! Here we will take you through our adventures as first time parents and our notable family moments.  So come along with us as we live to tell all about the seemingly mundane, everyday moments that every family lives, but in our own special way in our own little corner of the world.

High Altitude, High Aptitude: Aunt Lexie Graduates!

We went all the way to Boulder Colorado to see Lexie receive three degrees from the University of Colorado in Boulder.  The day we got there it felt like it was 90 degrees and I was worried that all the sweaters I brought would go unworn in my suitcase.  Not to worry, a cold front came through that night, and it was bitter cold for the main ceremony.  We huddled with hot coffee under blankets and cheered for Lexie’s class.

The first Ceremony was on Thursday (the warm day) and Lexie took the stage to accept both of her film degrees.

Cole did great being entertained by Nona and Grandpa for a while, but then we had to find some greener pastures to roam around in. This was when he was about done just sitting. If he’s not sleeping he wants to be moving!

We watched a good portion of the ceremony from a distance so Cole could walk around.

Hanging out after the ceremony.

I must find some where to crawl!

It was a beautiful sunny day, glad we got some shots around Campus before the storms came in!

The next day, we didn’t know what had hit us! It was like we were in a whole different place.  We woke up to wind, and temperatures in the 30′s. Lexie had two ceremony’s that day, so we bundled up and went out to cheer!

A giant inflatable champagne bottle to send the graduates off!

It’s pretty much a standard now that Colton will be screaming for every family picture!

And the final graduation ceremony was for Lexie to get her English degree.  About half way through the program, the rain started.  It was a sea of umbrellas, and by the time Lexie (the very last graduate) strolled across the stage the whole place had pretty much cleared out. Lexie didn’t seem to care too much.  While all the other graduates were racing to get into line, she casually stayed back, completely chill, in her orange rain boots, that suddenly seemed like not such a crazy idea to anyone.

Congratulations Lexie! We Love You!

Our Little Minnow

Warmer weather has found its way to Texas and we couldn’t be happier!  Not that it ever really got cold here this year, but that, and the mosquitoes we are about to face, is a whole other story.

The water would still be a bit chilly, but thanks to the heated pool at Nona and Grandpa’s we are good to go for some spring time swimming!

Colton took to the water like a little minnow.  It’s so special for me to be able to say that as I remember the nickname fondly from me and all my siblings and cousins being called  “little minnows” during our own childhood learning to swim at my Grandma and Grandpa Rabbitt’s house. We’ve long since graduated from minnow status and now it’s our little ones carrying on the tradition.

Mary - How Mom loved watching all of her little minnows! Thanks for remembering that. These pictures are so precious!May 8, 2012 - 11:01 PM

We have liftoff!

There has been BIG NEWS around here since last week.  Colton is CRAWLING!  For a couple of weeks Colton has been doing the “inchworm” to get around.  He finally, last week,  figured out how to lift his arms and get around using a real crawl. In the first video (please try to ignore the “This American Life” episode in the background) you can see him really thinking about how he’s going to get over to Cash.  This was only the second time he had actually crawled.  The second video is the next day, and he was improving a lot by then! Now he’s crawling around like a pro and even just this morning, going from laying down to sitting up completely on his own, and has started to pull up on things.

PoPo Joe - It was only a matter of time. Now you'll have to put a GPS on him to keep track of him.April 12, 2012 - 7:30 AM

I crack this kid up!

It’s the little things when you’re 7 months, I guess.  The other day I was playing with Colton and I made a random noise.  He laughed so hard he couldn’t breath.  I’ve never heard him laugh so hard.  We did this for two rounds.  I’m so excited I thought to get the second round on video.  I never want to forget this laugh.

A Texas Tradition

Every year all along the highways in Texas, bluebonnets pop up for about two weeks in April, and everyone takes their kids out to get photographed in beautiful sea of blue and white. Ever since I’ve moved here I’ve seen the families on the side of the highway with their adorably dressed children (and sometimes dogs) posing for the once yearly shot in the bluebonnets. Well, this year it was my family all dressed up on the side of the highway trying to get our kid to smile. :)   Cole was a little unsure, at first, of being so close to nature, but he warmed up after a bit and he managed some great expressions.  Jillian is an old pro at this, and looked like a star as always.

Captured a butterfly!

Jeannie Rabbitt - What a beautiful day!!! And such beautiful children and parents, too!!! (also very lovely plants! - think they can grow here in MO?)April 12, 2012 - 10:31 PM
